Go On, I Dare You!Many singles around the world are looking for love through an online dating agency. What is more, many of these people are eligible, professional and educated people with a good background, just like youandme. People who, if we met through friends or in a pub, we would consider good boyfriend or girlfriend material. Yet, for many people there is something which makes them shy away from online dating and which makes it into an embarrassing and taboo subject. What is this? What is it that makes a harmless and fun pastime into a shameful thing that we do not want our friends to know about? What is it that makes us imagine that the potential partners on the online sites are miserable and desperate losers whose only hope of finding love is through the internet? Or even worse, mad axe-murderers… Part of this is our upbringing and the model that we are used to for finding partners. Girl meets boy, often through friends or family, girl and boy fall in love, get married and have 2.4 children. However much of this is what we have grown up with, times are changing and our whole pattern of life is changing. Our whole lives now are more internet oriented and it is therefore no surprise that our potential love life is also becoming more internet oriented. It would be surprising if it were to go any other way. Much of our social interaction now is taking place online, so why should we be ashamed of turning to dating online? |
